“The savviest of the b’s”

Price at Purchase: $8.99 Location: Safeway

Oi, we’re heading to New Zealand for this one! We chose this wine since we were primarily looking for a dry white wine to cook with, and thought “what the hell, let’s just drink the rest of it.” Savvy b’s always appear at the top of the list for driest whites, AND they are the flagship varietal of New Zealand so we thought this particular bottle was a reliable choice.

To us, though, this wine is definitely not dry (is the opposite of dry wine….wet wine??? We’re struggling over here). But given that this wine is from the other side of the world, maybe that makes sense. Their winters are like, 200 degrees, so what even are facts anymore. IDK I’m not the expert.

This sauvignon blanc does have the crispness that we all have grown to love and expect. There’s a pungent sourness to it, too, so be prepared to squint and look like a goldfish for a hot sec—but like, a cute goldfish, not one of those scary huge ones in hotel “ponds” that grow to be ten pounds. The lemon tang mixes well with the other tropical fruit flavors (think pineapple, mango, and guava), that makes it very drinkable and an overall very enjoyable experience! On a scale of 0-5 kiwis, this one gets all 5. Good on ya, mate!

It’s also sweet, but not offensive. Like when you finally put on make-up for the first time in two months and your BFF comments on how she can tell you “actually tried” today. Thanks, I guess? The joke’s on her, though, since you’ve been wearing that top you borrowed from her on all of your Zoom dates, and now she can’t get it back until quarantine is over. Who’s the savvy b, now ;-)
